Chelsea want action on sexist chanting at football games

Footage has emerged of club doctor Eva Carneiro being abused from the stands.

VIDEO FOOTAGE OF Chelsea club doctor Eva Carneiro being subjected to sexist chants has prompted the London outfit to ask the English FA and Premier League to take action.

Carneiro had to endure Manchester United fans singing ’get your tits out for the lads‘ while Arsenal fans sang ‘ever had a Gooner up your arse?

The club, and campaign groups such as Women in Football (WiF), believe that if sexist chanting was treated with the same zero tolerance as racist behaviour at grounds, it would be stamped out very quickly.

The group has created a “sexist briefing note” which it hopes will help match day stewards and stadium safety officials to recognise sexist abuse in football stadiums.

A survey conducted by WiF found that over 66% of women employed in the sport had witnessed sexism in the workplace while over 89% of those who said they had witnessed it also said they had not reported it.

In a statement to The Guardian about the abuse Carneiro in particular had been subjected to, Chelsea said:

“The issue of equality is one we take extremely seriously and we abhor discrimination in all its forms, including sexism. Such behaviour is unacceptable and we want it eradicated from the game.”
